SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Community Development Manager (CDM) plans, implements, and coordinates programs that promote economic growth, community engagement, and business development. This role ensures Chamber initiatives are aligned with the organization’s mission and communal priorities across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The CDM also oversees administrative work.
 
Individual must be self-motivated, results-oriented with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality customer support, possess excellent time management skills, credible and comfortable dealing with a broad spectrum of business industries and people.
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Build and maintain strong community partnerships.
  • Ensure alignment of Chamber programs and initiatives with both the Chamber mission and intersectoral priorities, including evaluating program outcomes and recommending improvements.
  • Identify community needs and opportunities through research, surveys, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborate with community partners on meeting identified needs and opportunities.
  • Provide resources, referrals, and guidance to support business success.
  • Assist with business recruitment, retention, and expansion efforts.
  • Contribute to the digital conversation related to the Chamber’s initiatives through social media and other channels.
  • Oversee Area Councils.
  • Oversee Leadership Jackson County (LJC) and LJC Alumni programs.
  • Collect invoices for approval and deliver to bookkeeper, twice monthly.
  • Check mail on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Maintain and oversee vendors and others concerning office equipment and supplies, landscaping, janitorial services, and building maintenance.
  • Oversee room bookings in the conference room and Jerry St. Pe Room.
  • Process Certificates of Origin.
  • Ensure garbage can is at the curb at close of business Thursdays.
  • Plan and prepare for board meetings, keep and maintain meeting minutes.
 
The Community Development Manager may work some weekends and a non-traditional work schedule, including overnight travel; attend conferences for training classes in Mississippi and other states. Performs other related duties, as required.
 
PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-25 pounds). Ability to be on feet for a long period of time with substantial walking at events.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public policy/administration, marketing, business, or related field of study; or equivalent experience of at least five years.
  • Outstanding written, spoken communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in digital storytelling techniques.
  • Able to nurture effective relationships across public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
  • Experience in all major office-related computer applications.
  • Presentation skills, including ability to create effective and attractive visual aids.
  • Flexibility.
  • Valid driver’s license, sufficient automobile insurance, and personal cell phone.
